Detroit Historical Museum will present a special “work in progress” screening of God Said Give ‘Em Drum Machines – The Story of Detroit Techno. This showing will be a special showing on Friday 7/12/19 during the illustrious Concert Of Colors festival. This FREE festival has been celebrating diversity in Detroit for 27 years and we are proud to showcase the stories of Detroit’s Afro American founders of Techno. We examine the all-too-human triumphs and heartbreaks behind one of Detroit’s great contributions to global culture: Techno.

There will be a “Talk Back” Q and A session after the 1PM showing where producers, Jennifer Washington and David Grandison will discuss the making of the film. Our film explores the phenomenon created by black artists in the 1980s that transformed dance music internationally and blossomed into the multibillion-dollar industry of EDM today. Our film features Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May, Eddie Fowlkes, Santonio Echols, Blake Baxter, and Mike Huckaby among others.
